GSCC Small Group Study Material                                Week of 09-16-2006

Purpose of study: Trust in God’s plans.

Intro Q: What would you react if you know what will happen to you tomorrow or the next week?  Give answers to a “Good” and a “Bad” thing that will happen to you.

Read Jeremiah 29:11-13

11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not   to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.

13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

The background when Jeremiah wrote this was that God was judging the nation of Judah because of their unfaithfulness. The Babylonians have taken prisoners back to Babylon including the king and other officers.  “We are the Chosen ones! This isn’t supposed to be happening”, people cried out.

  1. Who is making plans for your life?
  2. God is accomplishing His good plans in our lives even if those plans are not what we were expecting.  Share an experience that your life did not go as what you’d hoped for.
  3. Reflect on the Intro Question, do you think your reaction to knowing your future shall help or harm God’s plans? (for example, you might try hard to alter it because you thought it was “bad” for you)
  4. How should we respond to God’s plans for our life?

-          Thank Him for His salvation and His great plans leading us there.

-          Call upon Him and pray to Him for strength to carry through our life

-          Seek Him with all our heart and love Him
