Purpose of study: Study the meaning of the resurrection of Lazarus

Intro Q.:

Read Bible verses: John 11:1-44

1. Why do you think Jesus decides to wait until after Lazarus dies before going to visit him?

2. What do you think Jesus means when he tells Martha that he is "the resurrection and the life" (v. 25)?

3. Why do you think Jesus is "deeply troubled" and weeps when he sees Mary and the Jews weeping? Note: the Greek word for "deeply troubled" usually connotes anger.

4. Observe that in v. 40 Jesus tells Martha, "Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?" Now remember that in verse 4 Jesus said, "this illness does not lead to death. It is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified in it."  How does this story glorify God? Why might it be so important that we view this as being for the glory of God?

5. What does it mean to you personally that Jesus is the resurrection and the life?
